PRAYER IN PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP

God of small seeds and mighty plants, you take our lives and produce acts of loving kindness for you in this world. You hear our cries and find us when we are lost and wandering. You bring us home to you so that we may be made whole. Prepare our hearts to receive your word and our spirits to respond in eagerness to serve you. Amen.

GATHERING HYMN

“All Hail The Power Of Jesus' Name”

All hail the power of Jesus' name! Let angels prostrate fall;

Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown him Lord of all.

Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown him Lord of all.

Crown him, ye martyrs of our God, who from his altar call;

Extol the stem of Jesse's rod, and crown him Lord of all.

Extol the stem of Jesse's rod, and crown him Lord of all.

Ye seed of Israel's chosen race, ye ransomed of the fall;

Hail him who saves you by his grace, and crown him Lord of all.

Hail him who saves you by his grace, and crown him Lord of all.

O that, with yonder sacred throng, we at his feet may fall;

We'll join the everlasting song, and crown him Lord of all.

We'll join the everlasting song, and crown him Lord of all.

CALL TO CONFESSION

UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Help us to walk by faith, O God, not by sight. Be our vision, Holy One, for without vision your people perish. Remind us that you do not see as mortals see, for you do not judge by outward appearances, but look on the heart. With our eyes of faith enlightened, help us see your kingdom in a tiny mustard seed, and marvel at the growth you offer to all through the power of your Spirit. Amen.

2 Corinthians 5: 16-21

The Ministry Of Reconciliation

From now on, therefore, we regard no one from a human point of view; even though we once knew Christ from a human point of view, we know him no longer in that way. So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us. So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

GOSPEL READING

Mark 4: 26-34

The Parable Of The Mustard Seed

Jesus also said, “The kingdom of God is as if someone would scatter seed on the ground, and would sleep and rise night and day, and the seed would sprout and grow, he does not know how. The earth produces of itself, first the stalk, then the head, then the full grain in the head. But when the grain is ripe, at once he goes in with his sickle, because the harvest has come.”

He also said, “With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable will we use for it? It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.”

With many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear it; he did not speak to them except in parables, but he explained everything in private to his disciples.

HYMN

“For The Beauty Of the Earth”

For the beauty of the earth, for the beauty of the skies,

For the love which from our birth over and around us lies,

Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise.

For the beauty of each hour, of the day and of the night,

Hill and vale and tree and flower, sun and moon and stars of light,

Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise.

For the joy of ear and eye, for the heart and mind's delight,

For the mystic harmony linking sense to sound and light,

Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise.

For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child,

Friends on earth and friends above, for all gentle thoughts and mild,

Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymns of grateful praise.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

“The Apostles’ Creed”

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

      Creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,

      He was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

      Born of the Virgin Mary,

      Suffered under Pontius Pilate,

      Was crucified, died, and was buried;

      He descended to the dead.

      On the third day he rose again;

      He ascended into heaven,

      He is seated at the right hand of the Father,

      And he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

      The holy catholic Church

      The communion of saints,

      The forgiveness of sins,

      The resurrection of the body,

      And the life everlasting. Amen.

MORNING PRAYERS & LORD’S PRAYER

     Pastor: Let us turn our hearts to God in our morning prayers…the Lord be with you.

     People: And with you also.

     Pastor: Let us pray…

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

PARTING HYMN

“Jesus Shall Reign”

Jesus shall reign where'er the son

Doth his successive journeys run;

His kingdom stretch from shore to shore

Till moons shall wax and wane no more.

People and realms of ev'ry tongue

Dwell on his love with sweetest song,

And infant voices shall proclaim

Their early blessings on his name.

Blessings abound where'er he reigns;

The pris'ner leaps to lose his chains;

The weary find eternal rest,

And all the sons of want are blest.

Let ev'ry creature rise and bring

Peculiar honors to our king;

Angels descend with songs again,

And earth repeat the loud amen!
