PRAYER IN PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP

We thank you God for your many gifts:  presence to break the bonds of isolation, power to overcome our powerlessness.  We thank you for the promise of this day:  new life for tired spirits, victory for the faithful.  Help us to reach out to each other in community and be agents of renewal.  May your resurrection happen in and through us.  Amen.

CALL TO CONFESSION

UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Patient God, we recognize that we have honored you with our words while our hearts were far away.  We have taught doctrines from our own limited understanding, and held fast to human traditions as if they embodied your will.  We have filled our minds with evil thoughts that lead to destructive deeds.  We pray for forgiveness and the opportunity for new beginnings.

FIRST READING

Psalm 8

Lord , our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. O Lord , our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

TEACHING TIME FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS

GOSPEL READING

Mark 10: 13-16

People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.

     Prayer Of Dedication

INVITATION TO COMMUNION

Pastor: Luke the evangelist wrote of our risen Savior, who at the table with two of the disciples took bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them.  Their eyes were opened and they recognized the risen Christ in the breaking of the bread.

People: In company with all believers, in every time and beyond time, we come to this table to know Christ in the breaking of the bread.

COMMUNION PRAYER

Pastor:   God be with you.

People: And also with you.

Pastor:   Lift up your hearts.

People:  We lift them to God.

Pastor:   Let us give thanks to God most High.

People: It is right to give God thanks and praise.

Pastor:  We give you thanks, O God . . . May our lives be poured out in compassion, and in solidarity with the poor, the oppressed, and the hungry of this world.

Response: “Holy Holy Holy”

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Sabaoth;

Heaven and earth are full, are full

Of the majesty of thy glory.

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest!

Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest!
