GATHERING HYMN

“Be Now My Vision”

Be now my vision, O God of my heart;

Nothing surpasses the love you impart -

You my best thought, by day or by night,

Waking or sleeping, your presence my light,

Be now my wisdom, and be my true word;

Ever within me, my soul is assured;

Mother and Father, you are both to me,

Now and forever your child I will be.

Riches I need hot, nor life's empty praise,

You, my inheritance, now and always;

You and you only are first in my heart,

Great God, my treasure, my we never part.

Sovereign of heaven, my victory won,

May I reach heaven's joy, O bright heaven's Sun!

Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,

Still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

CALL TO CONFESSION

UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION

O God of all creation, your promises are vast, yet we fail to trust your word. We doubt your power to transform our lives. Give us the patience to wait for your time, for your blessings, and for your will to be done. Help us feel your loving compassion, that we may dwell securely beneath the wings of your love. Amen.

FIRST READING

Ephesians 5: 8-20

From Darkness To Light

For once you were darkness, but now in the Lord you are light. Live as children of light—for the fruit of the light is found in all that is good and right and true. Try to find out what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to mention what such people do secretly; but everything exposed by the light becomes visible, for everything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, “Sleeper, awake! Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

Be careful then how you live, not as unwise people but as wise, making the most of the time, because the days are evil. So do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit, as you sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, singing and making melody to the Lord in your hearts, giving thanks to God the Father at all times and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

HYMN

"This Little Light Of Mine"

This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.

This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.

This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine,

Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

Everywhere I go, I'm gonna let it shine.

Everywhere I go, I'm gonna let it shine.

Everywhere I go, I'm gonna let it shine,

Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

All through the night, I'm gonna let it shine.

All through the night, I'm gonna let it shine.

All through the night, I'm gonna let it shine,

Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

All around the world, I'm gonna let it shine.

All around the world, I'm gonna let it shine.

All around the world, I'm gonna let it shine,

Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

GOSPEL READING

John 1: 1-5

The Word Of Life

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.

TEACHING TIME

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

“The Apostles’ Creed”

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

      Creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,

      He was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

      Born of the Virgin Mary,

      Suffered under Pontius Pilate,

      Was crucified, died, and was buried;

      He descended to the dead.

      On the third day he rose again;

      He ascended into heaven,

      He is seated at the right hand of the Father,

      And he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

      The holy catholic Church

      The communion of saints,

      The forgiveness of sins,

      The resurrection of the body,

      And the life everlasting. Amen.

MORNING PRAYERS & LORD’S PRAYER

     Leader: The Lord be with you.

     People: And with you also.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

OFFERING

     Response: “Doxology”

Praise Him, all creatures here below.

Praise Him above ye heav’nly host.

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost! Amen.

     Prayer Of Dedication

PARTING HYMN

“O Word Of God Incarnate”

O Word of God incarnate, O Wisdom from on high,

O Truth unchanged, unchanging, O Light of clouded sky:

We praise you for the radiance that from the hallowed page,

A lantern to our footsteps, shines on from age to age.

O make your church, dear Savior, a lamp of purest gold,

To bear before all people your true light as of old!

O teach your wandering pilgrims by this their path to trace,

Till, doubt and striving ended, they meet you face to face.
