GATHERING HYMN

“Thine Is The Glory”

Thine is the glory, risen, conquering Son;

Endless is the victory Thou o’er death hast won.

Angels in bright raiment rolled the stone away,

Kept the folded graveclothes where thy body lay.

Thine is the glory, risen, conquering Son;

Endless is the victory Thou o’er death hast won!

Lo! Jesus meets thee, risen from the tomb;

Lovingly he greets thee, scatters fear and gloom;

Let his church with gladness hymns of triumph sing,

For her Lord now liveth; death hath lost its sting.

Thine is the glory, risen, conquering Son;

Endless is the victory Thou o’er death hast won.

No more we doubt thee, glorious Prince of Life!

Life is naught without thee; Aid us in our strife;

Make us more than conquerors, through thy deathless love;

Bring us safe through Jordan to thy home above.

Thine is the glory, risen, conquering Son;

Endless is the victory Thou o’er death hast won.

CALL TO CONFESSION

UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION

You know us so very well, Christ Jesus. You know our doubts and our questions, and you love us enough to welcome such doubts and questions. You know our fractures and divisions, and you love us enough to invite us to forgive one another and live in unity. You know the shadows that tempt us, and still you shine your light within, inviting warmth and welcoming us back to your path of peace and love. Thank you for loving us and for inviting us on the journey of love. Help us embrace this journey, that we may walk in the light, and live in unity together. In your gracious love, we pray. Amen.

FIRST READING

Acts 4: 32-35

The Believers Share Their Possessions

Now the whole group of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one claimed private ownership of any possessions, but everything they owned was held in common. With great power the apostles gave their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold. They laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need.

GOSPEL READING

John 20: 19-31

Jesus Appears To The Disciples

When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.

Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.”

A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.”

Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”

Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.”

Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.

TEACHING TIME FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS

HYMN

“We Live By Faith And Not By Sight”

We live by faith and not by sight;

No gracious words we hear

From Christ who spoke as none e’er spoke,

Who still we know is near.

We may not touch Christ’s hands and side,

Nor follow where Christ trod;

But in confessing we rejoice:

Our Savior and our God!

Help then, O Christ, our unbelief;

And may our faith abound

To call on you when you are near

And seek where you are found.

TEACHING TIME

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

“The Apostles’ Creed”

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

      Creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,

      He was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

      Born of the Virgin Mary,

      Suffered under Pontius Pilate,

      Was crucified, died, and was buried;

      He descended to the dead.

      On the third day he rose again;

      He ascended into heaven,

      He is seated at the right hand of the Father,

      And he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

      The holy catholic Church

      The communion of saints,

      The forgiveness of sins,

      The resurrection of the body,

      And the life everlasting. Amen.

MORNING PRAYERS & LORD’S PRAYER

     Pastor: Let us turn our hearts to God in our morning prayers…the Lord be with you.

     People: And with you also.

     Pastor: Let us pray…

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

PARTING HYMN

“Rejoice The Lord Is King”

Rejoice, the Lord is king! Your Lord and King adore!

Rejoice, give thanks, and sing, and triumph ever more:

Lift up your heart, lift up your voice!

Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!

The Lord our savior reigns, the God of truth and love;

When he had purged our stains, he took his seat above;

Lift up your heart, lift up your voice!

Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!

His kingdom cannot fail, he rules o’er earth and heav’n;

The keys of death and hell are to our Jesus giv’n:

Lift up your heart, lift up your voice!
